There are over 3.4 million advertised jobs and numerous other jobs promoted through referral channels or agencies. The recent Bureau of Labor Statistics report says that there are greater than 12.8 million unemployed job seekers looking for work, and over 1 million more unemployed giving up after having looked for so long with no luck.
Still, employers can’t find the right candidates for their open positions. Manpower Group released the results of a recent survey in which they found that 51% of U.S. employers had trouble filling job openings in 2011. Compared to 2010, this statistic had quadrupled. According to LeanHumanCapital.com, it takes 115 days to fill 1 out of every 4 positions. Coincidentally, these primarily are the most business critical positions with the highest demand and lowest supply candidates.
How can so many displaced job seekers be unqualified? Where are employers advertising or searching for talent that they cannot find the candidates they need for open critical positions? What does it take for a candidate to find opportunities and get noticed by employers that interest them?
The solution is simple. Find opportunities and get connected to great employers by making yourself more visible. But, how?
